Hello friends! We’ve had a few new faces join us at the Table since last week, and I’d love for us to get to know each other. Think of this as the nice-kids-table in the junior high lunchroom, but without the terrible cafeteria food and the sweaty armpits and the incessant yelling. (Okay, bad analogy. I’m leaving it anyway.)
What brought you to the Spacious Table? What do you love? What is saving your life right now? What do you hope for?
Or ignore these questions and introduce yourself however you’d like!
Hi, I'm Charyse, Erin's daughter. I'm here because I love to read and hear my mom use her words to change and make the world a better place. She is amazing and one of my biggest role models! I'm 14, my full-time job is making sure I pass all my classes, and I do volleyball on the side. I love sports, movies, reading, writing and listening to music, and hanging out with my friends. Right now I think school is saving my life. To be honest, if I didn't have anything to do right now I would be going stir crazy lol. It's nice to have something to work hard on and complete. I hope that in the coming month's lots of changes are made. I hope that there is more focus on Covid. And I hope that the people that have placed their lot with Trump and have been protesting calm down after the inauguration. On a less heavy note, I really hope everyone is happy and healthy!
Hello everyone. I’m Heath, that guy who’s been following Erin around since I met her in 2002. Occasionally we do cool stuff together like travel, cook delicious food, make babies, complain about each other’s annoying habits, dream about the future, etc...normal “married stuff.” Thus, I am here because I continue to follow Erin, with even more admiration and passion than when we met. I am also here because I have grown more and more disenfranchised with church and modern Christianity since completing my Biblical studies degree and subsequent internships at churches in the South. And yet, I hold onto my faith and the spiritual elements of our existence I KNOW are true, and I’m hoping to find others seeking to explore what that means with me.
I love my family. I love creating and building - whether it’s art, construction projects, networks of people, nonprofit organizations, cocktails, or business ideas. I love to play - golf, fly fishing, basketball, spike ball, Magic, and board games. I love to travel and get lost.
Hope for a better future is saving my life right now. I hope for a healthier, kinder, world for future generations. I hope for a better, healthier, spiritual maturation for my kids than what I had. I hope to finish my Master’s in less than 2 years. I hope to be able to travel and explore again soon. I’m hopeful for the future of this “table.”
Hi, I'm Angie, one of Erin's cousins and BIGGEST fans. I consider myself among the lucky ones to have known her like I have- though some years I've been better in touch than others. I echo Jean's sentiments on wishing I had Erin's energy. What a gift. I'm an Executive Assistant at a movie studio in Hollywood- yes, it still exists (somehow)! I love hanging out with my husband. I love good hikes, good tequila, good sushi, watching the sun disappear behind the ocean, and again like Jean, I enjoy watching nature in the back yard. Squirrels, birds, including hummingbirds and even a juvenile hawk!! I think my curiosity about my own faith has helped to save my life over the past few years. And Peloton has truly saved it over the past 12 months. I've lived with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) since 2014. I hope for a cure. I also hope for a collective positive conversation and growth out of the racist roots in this country. Oh and I still hope to be a mom one day. So grateful to be here at this table.
Hi, I'm Jean, a retired hospital chaplain and UMC Deacon. I love Erin's preaching, intelligence, humour and lateral theological l thinking. I only wish I had a tenth of her energy! I love being with my beloved, a nurse, and sharing our faith daily as we navigate life and the changing world. Our faith is what brought us together and has sustained us and challenged us this last year. The things that have been woven into our daily lives that bring us joy or simple, the birds at the feeders, our summer garden, photography of whatever interests us, drives around the many neighbourhoods of Anchorage, playing cards and swearing as we lose, and reading, lots and lots of reading. Thank you Erin for this spacious table. I look forward meeting you all!
You *wonderful* people! [ PS -- I swear I did NOT pay my family money to say nice things about me. :D ] I absolutely love the group that is gathering here... thank you for helping to create this new/emerging space. I'm so curious about what we will be, and discover, together. Welcome!!!
